Canada Study Permit: Everything You Need to Know in 2026
Canada has become one of the fastest-growing study destinations for Pakistani students. With high-quality education, affordable tuition, pathways to permanent residency, and a welcoming environment, it is easy to see why.
This guide covers the complete Canadian study permit process for Pakistani nationals in 2026.
World-class education: Home to universities like University of Toronto, UBC, McGill, and the University of Waterloo
Post-study work: The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows you to work in Canada for up to 3 years after graduation
Path to PR: The Express Entry system and Provincial Nominee Programs make it easier for international graduates to become permanent residents
Safe and multicultural: One of the safest countries in the world, with a diverse population
Affordable tuition: Lower than the UK and USA for comparable quality

How to purchase a GIC:
Apply online through the bank's international student GIC programme
Transfer CAD $20,635 (or more) to the bank
Receive a GIC certificate — you will need this for your visa application
The funds are released to you in Canada in monthly installments over 12 months
Step 4: Complete the Online Application
Create an account on the IRCC portal (canada.ca)
Complete the study permit application form
Upload all required documents
Pay the application fee: CAD $150
Pay the biometric fee: CAD $85
Schedule your biometric appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Pakistan
Step 5: Biometric Appointment
Attend your appointment at the VAC in:
